You can export the mailbox items from Outlook using the Outlook Import Export wizard. All the mailbox data, such as emails, contacts, attachments, etc., are exported and saved on your computer in a .pst file format, which you can move or transfer to other computer and Import via Outlook Import Export wizard. PST files can also be imported into Office 365 and Microsoft Exchange Server.
Unlike PST, there is no direct way to transfer Outlook OST or cache Exchange mailbox data to a new computer. Instead, you need to first convert the OST to PST using the Outlook Import and Export wizard or a third-party OST converter tool, such as Stellar Converter for OST. The software can also convert orphaned or inaccessible Offline Outlook data file (.ost or .pst) files to new PST. This professional converter tool can export encrypted Offline OST files to PST in an error-free manner. Once the offline OSt file is converted to PST, you can quickly transfer Outlook data to a new computer and import the PST file into any Outlook account or profile.
Importing from Outlook in the built-in import wizard was disabled in version 38 as it broke. This was fixed in version 58. If it breaks again you can work around this by temporarily using an older version of Thunderbird. See Go back to an old version of Thunderbird for links to older setup programs. [1] [2]
Most import tools, and Thunderbird, require that a compatible version of Outlook be installed on the machine being used to import Microsoft outlook data. Microsoft Outlook stores data in .pst files, which is a proprietary format. Thunderbird does not understand that format, nor does it know that .pst files even exist. So there is no Thunderbird import command that lets you browse to the location of a .pst file, nor can it import data if Outlook is not installed.
My Windows 7 desktop hard drive crashed, was using Outlook. All files were backed up onto a portable hard drive under a file header "Documents" which included all emails and contact information from outlook. Purchased a Windows 10 new desktop. Installed Thunderbird and can't seem to get Tbird to locate the files transferred to the new computer's hard drive. Thunderbird keeps wanting another email program to import from. All the data is there, just can't figure out how to get Thunderbird to look in the correct location!
Importing Outlook data to TB is a tricky maneuver at the best of times, but the import wizard only works if Outlook and TB are installed on the same computer. It won't work if just the Outlook 'data' are available, without a 3rd-party program. If the Outlook data are in a form that TB can import, e.g. mbox or eml files for mail, vCards or csv files for contacts, then it's possible.
The exporting wizard allows you to customize which items and details to include in your export / report. You can alsocreate and import column configurations and templates to avoid selecting the same details for multipleexports. 2b1af7f3a8
